Pets and Summer Vacation

Pets and Summer Vacation

We see lots of dogs with their heads sticking out windows of cars enjoying the breeze. It makes me smile but at the same time I’m always concerned for the dogs’ health. It seems no matter how many warnings people are given about the dangers of leaving dogs and children in a hot car in summer, each year in Phoenix we hear the sad news that it happens…way too often! If you do plan to travel with your pets this summer, make plans before you leave home so you and your pet aren’t overly stressed by the trip. Select a hotel or cabin that welcomes pets. Plan a vacation that your pet will enjoy as well! Find restaurants that offer outdoor dining that accommodate your animals. Make sure your pets have all their shots up to date, are in good health for travel and have had their flea and tick prevention. Don’t assume that a “pet friendly” hotel will be accommodating to cats and other animals. I’ve heard many times that hotels or resorts cl ... read more

Keeping Your Car Happy

Keeping Your Car Happy

We know cars don’t really have feelings but if your car did…would it be happy with how you treat it? Think about it for just a moment. Your car does so much for you. It gets you where you need to be…and back again. It hauls you and other passengers and groceries and sometimes lots of baggage or tools or gardening supplies. If it had feelings what would it take to make it feel cared for? It would want to be clean and shiny…inside and out. The windows would be the mirror of its soul so make sure they are clean and that the wiper blades work properly. Fluids are essential so it would want its fluid intake to be changed when necessary so it drinks healthful fluids to lubricate all its parts. How are the tires? Do they resemble a worn pair of shoes or worse…a flattened donut? Has it been a while since the tires were checked for proper inflation? I’m sure it would want its brakes checked so it wouldn’t be in fear of crashing or running ... read more

The Estimate

The Estimate

Today automotive service and repair shops are getting more calls than ever asking for an estimate and we at Fairway Auto Repair are no exception. We understand that consumers in Phoenix are searching for the best value for their hard earned dollars. It has been a while since I addressed this issue but many are asking exactly how we, and other auto repair shops arrive at the estimated price so I thought I would take a moment and explain this again. An estimate consists of three parts: The labor rate Parts and supplies Overhead Fairway Auto Repair and other automotive service and repair shops estimate the labor rate by how long any given service or repair should take. There are guidelines set down by the manufacturer of each vehicle estimating the time it takes a trained technician to perform any given task. Parts and supplies are included in the estimate, of course. We use two categories of parts, OEM or “Aftermarket.” The parts manufactured by the original car manufa ... read more

Longevity

Longevity

Preventive maintenance is the key to longevity for your vehicle. It is made up of several moving parts that need to be properly lubricated to limit friction and degradation of parts. Fairway Auto Repair has been urging our customers for years to save money by having their vehicles serviced regularly. One of the vital ingredients to give your car long life is the use of proper lubricants. I’m sure most all the drivers in Phoenix know that replacing a car’s engine or transmission is very costly. We hope you never have to find out. To prevent that, the oil needs to be changed regularly as do other fluids. Our technicians at Fairway Auto Repair can be relied on to use quality fluids to ensure your car’s health. Oil lubricates all the moving parts of your vehicle while you are driving it. This keeps every part moving smoothly and prevents jamming which leads to part failures. Oil that isn’t changed regularly gets dirty and the buildup of contaminates can also l ... read more
