Longevity

Longevity

Preventive maintenance is the key to longevity for your vehicle. It is made up of several moving parts that need to be properly lubricated to limit friction and degradation of parts. Fairway Auto Repair has been urging our customers for years to save money by having their vehicles serviced regularly. One of the vital ingredients to give your car long life is the use of proper lubricants. I’m sure most all the drivers in Phoenix know that replacing a car’s engine or transmission is very costly. We hope you never have to find out. To prevent that, the oil needs to be changed regularly as do other fluids. Our technicians at Fairway Auto Repair can be relied on to use quality fluids to ensure your car’s health. Oil lubricates all the moving parts of your vehicle while you are driving it. This keeps every part moving smoothly and prevents jamming which leads to part failures. Oil that isn’t changed regularly gets dirty and the buildup of contaminates can also l ... read more

The Estimate

The Estimate

Today automotive service and repair shops are getting more calls than ever asking for an estimate and we at Fairway Auto Repair are no exception. We understand that consumers in Phoenix are searching for the best value for their hard earned dollars. It has been a while since I addressed this issue but many are asking exactly how we, and other auto repair shops arrive at the estimated price so I thought I would take a moment and explain this again. An estimate consists of three parts: The labor rate Parts and supplies Overhead Fairway Auto Repair and other automotive service and repair shops estimate the labor rate by how long any given service or repair should take. There are guidelines set down by the manufacturer of each vehicle estimating the time it takes a trained technician to perform any given task. Parts and supplies are included in the estimate, of course. We use two categories of parts, OEM or “Aftermarket.” The parts manufactured by the original car manufa ... read more

Listen…Is That Your Car Crying For Help?

Listen…Is That Your Car Crying For Help?

The car is just a machine that provides freedom to get where we need to go at a moment’s notice. Many of us in Phoenix can still remember when our car “talked to us” when it was not feeling well. What’s that you say? I’m talking about the days before we had modern technology. If the car needed spark plugs, it would idle rough, hiccup or stall. With the modern car, the computer system can mask a concern until it’s too late, resulting in an expensive repair. Fairway Auto Repair encourages preventive service to make sure our customers don’t wait until the car needs major work. We want to keep our customers safe and their cars from coming to us via the tow truck. This is accomplished when the consumer pays attention to their machine. The driver needs to be aware of their car and the clues it gives when some component is going bad. Check the gauges! Pay attention when the dashboard lights illuminate, even when the car seems to run fine! When y ... read more

Is Your Car Feeling Sluggish?

Is Your Car Feeling Sluggish?

You know how you feel some days? The alarm goes off and you just barely drag yourself out of bed to start another day? You wonder if you should take more vitamins, eat better or exercise more? You wonder if it is just “something going around” in Phoenix? Your vehicle can relate. How? Your vehicle can go through the same thing. Has it lost its pep? Does it have trouble starting in the morning? The culprit to its sluggishness could be an oxygen sensor going bad. Our vehicles have monitors and sensors that work together to give us the best possible ride. The oxygen sensor’s job is to monitor unburned oxygen in the exhaust. This helps determine if the correct fuel mixture is being distributed. It sends this message to the powertrain control module which works to constantly readjust the fuel mixture when your car is running to make sure it is providing the best fuel economy and less harmful emissions. When working properly it can determine and compensate for many ... read more
