HAZARDS OF RUNNING ON FUMES

HAZARDS OF RUNNING ON FUMES

Are you one of those people that wait until a warning beeps or the low fuel light illuminates? Do you feel confident you can go several more miles before actually running out of gas? Do you make a game of “I think I can, I think I can” meaning I think I can get to a gas station on just fumes alone? If so, read on! I’ve known a few people in my time who enjoy the challenge of pulling up to the gas station on fumes. Sure…they have lost a few times and had to hoof it to the nearest station, buy a gas can and walk back to where their trusty vehicle finally stopped. Some even brag after this experience that now they actually know for sure how many miles they can drive after the fuel warning lights up! I’m happy those people enjoy such games and challenges, but playing that game can have costly, not to mention damaging results for your vehicle. Most vehicles have an electric fuel pump located inside the fuel tank and are actually submerged in the fuel ... read more

Your Teen Driver And Safety

Your Teen Driver And Safety

What parents should look for in a car for their teen driver? Here is what the experts say. Teen’s dream of the fancy souped up sports car but that certainly isn’t the safe choice for young, inexperienced drivers. Teen drivers, between the ages of 16 to 19 are far more likely to have a crash than any other group. Teens tend to underestimate dangerous situations and they don’t always react to them appropriately. It is hard for a mature, experienced driver to always make the right snap judgment call when behind the wheel to avoid an accident. Everything happens way too fast. When you are brand new at driving it gets worse. Before you pick a car based on price or looks think reliable and safety first, then choose the safest car you can afford to buy. Air bags, stability control and excellent tires are a good start. Large to mid-size cars are safer than small cars because they are heavier. 16 models with the highest crash rates included 11 small cars. It is n ... read more

Being Gentle With Your Vehicle Saves Money

Being Gentle With Your Vehicle Saves Money

Some drivers inflict damage to their vehicles just by the way they drive. If you find you must have repairs more often than most people, you could be personally responsible. Do your brakes seem to wear out fast? Does your transmission need extra attention? Do you need an alignment a few times a year? Do you dash up to a red light or stop sign and push hard on the brake pedal? Do you fly over speed bumps? Do you floor it as soon as the light turns green? Do you hit the curb with your tires? When you put a lot of stress on your brakes, you are putting a lot of pressure on the braking systems components such as the rotors, calipers and pads. This causes them to wear out faster than normal driving. Tires that get hit with the curb, are driven with the wrong tire pressure and hit speed bumps at fast speeds are not going to last long…nor is the alignment. It also costs more in fuel. If you like to floor it as soon as the light turns green you put a lot of stress on y ... read more

HOW’S THE VIEW?

HOW’S THE VIEW?

How is the view from your windshield? It is interesting that 80 percent of vehicle accidents are contributed to poor visibility and yet the average driver gets their wipers replaced every two and a half years. They should be replaced every six months or at most every year. Think of what your windshield encounters! Rain Insects coming to a messy end Dust Pollen Bird droppings All these need to be cleared from your windshield when you are driving. If your wipers are worn and you turn them on to clear buildup you could end up with an even smearier blur instead of clear glass. Most wiper blades are made with rubber that breakdown over time just like your belts and hoses. The ozone oxidizes the rubber causing cracks to form on the surface. Hot summer days are hard on wipers too because a windshield can get very hot. This makes the rubber lose flexibility and crack. All of this causes the chattering and smearing when you turn them on to clear the windshield. What is this tellin ... read more

Back To School Time!

Back To School Time!

School Supplies – check School Clothes – check School Schedules – check School Lunches - check After School Schedules – check Bedtimes and Wake Up Call – check Homework Schedule – check What is missing from this list? Your car’s back-to-school checkup! When school starts traffic is heavier and Mom’s (or Dad’s) Taxi service is in high gear. Make sure your car is ready by having an inspection before school starts! Do you have a student driving themselves to school or college? Make sure their vehicle is ready too! Even if you aren’t directly affected by “back-to-school” these days, you can be affected if you are out and about during rush hour traffic. Make sure your car is ready for the increased traffic, the reduced speed limit in school zones and the sudden stops at cross walks. Be aware of busses (remember, they stop at all railroad crossings) and children and new drivers. Let’s make this a great s ... read more
